First Responders are the first in line to respond in dangerous, life-threatening events. During ever changing conditions and often stressful situations, they must perform their duties while demonstrating strength and upholding professional standards.
While first responders are trained to help others, these job requirements and conditions can bring high-levels of stress that can impair decision making, and lead to mistakes. Exposure to personal stress and to the pain of others can often cause compassion fatigue secondary and traumatization.
